HOPEFOOL (Review)

 

Poole’s Schools Together Rally in the Park On Thursday 21 October over 2000 pupils from Poole Schools with gather in Poole Park. This event marks the end of an exciting week of activities held as part of the national “One World Week. This year’s theme is ‘PEACING TOGETHER ONE WORLD’ and has been designed to promote equality, justice and respect for all children and families in Poole and around the world. The rally begins at 10 am and will finish at 11. Participants will be treated to the performances of a variety of school choirs as well as a new play called Hopefool written especially for the occasion by Sharon Muiruri. Hopefool will be performed by students from St. Edwards school working aside professional actors Jeffrey Goodwin (who played a Time Lord in the BBC’s Dr.Who) and Jon Nicholas. (who has made numerous TV appearances including The Bill) Music will be performed by the renowned Jack Maguire of the BSO and his Gypsy band ‘Mazel Tov’. The set is designed by artist Heidi Steller. Visitors to the event will also be able to browse stalls run by contributing schools displaying pupils’ work from the week. More than 20 Poole Schools have participated in the week. Activities have included interviewing including members of Dorset Race Equality Council, workshops on refugees run by the Red Cross, and large numbers of parents working in schools to share aspects of the wide range of cultures in the Poole Community. In the words of the One World Week organisers, ‘“when we understand each other’s perspectives, our lives can be transformed and enriched”. The week has been organized by Poole teachers in conjunction with DEED.
